Rev. W. Russell Freeman's daily thoughts on our bible readings during this year of going through the entire Bible using "The Grand Sweep" as our guide.

Pastoral Prayer – February 19

Prayer composed having recently read Leviticus while preparing for a Baptism on Transfiguration Sunday

O Lord, we come into the presence of your word expecting a clear path: with well-ordered rules and directions. We want a manual and you have given us a story. We crave direction and you say, “Join me on the journey.”

Today we pause once again before the waters of Baptism seeking order out of the chaos of our lives. We seek still waters amidst the storms that rage. In this moment we find a calm beyond reason that somehow meets our expectation of you, O Lord. On this occasion we finally recognize that you have the expectations of us, your people, O Lord.

On the mount of Transfiguration we find the Law, the prophets, and Jesus making real the mystery – allowing us to move forward towards your perfection though our actions betray perfection. Let us move off the mountain into the world ready to share the good news.

In Christ’s Name,

Amen
